Since returning to her hometown, Sofia, has also returned to her first love –  Jazz and Contemporary music. She is regularly appearing on the local stages in Varna. She is writing her own music and  is collaborating with her fellow artists on creating and releasing original music as well as new takes on the standard repertoire. Hew brand new album RETURN is coming up this spring, comprised of all original music, created and performed by her.

Recognised by audiences for her theatrical flair and sparkling performance, Sofia has enjoyed an international career, having performed in Italy, Switzerland, Portugal, Spain, the United States, England, Scotland, and in her native Bulgaria.

In 2016 Sofia was filmed in a documentary about the grand diva Pauline Donalda, filmed by the director Alan Marcus. Release to follow soon.

In her previous amplóa – the opera – she has appeared in the title role in Donizetti’s Anna Bolena, Donna Anna in Don Giovanni Princess Fedora in The Circus Princess and Kate in Madama Butterfly, and guest artist in Sour Angelica with Varna International Opera production tour. Other roles include Leonora in il Trovatore, Fiordiligi in Cosi fan Tutte, Vitellia in La Clemenza di Tito. She has also sang Pasatieri’s Lady Macbeth, for which she was praised for “evoking the steely strength of the murderous queen with her potent dramatic instrument”.

Sofia has performed at Carnegie Hall’s Zankel Hall, in the Caramoor Bel Canto academy under the baton of Maestro Will Crutchfield. He oratorio solos include Handel’s Messiah with the Monmouth Civic Chorus, Graun’s Der Tod Jesu, and Saint-Saëns’ Christmas Oratorio, Haydn’s Creation, Brahms’s Requiem among others.  She was also a soloist in Vivaldi’s Gloria in a concert performed in Siena, Italy.

Ms. Dimitrova has performed commissioned works by Paul Moravec, David Tcimpidis, Richard Russell, Thomas Addison, Raphael Fusco, Evan Lewis, Marilyn Bliss and Kevin McCarter. She has performed at Merkin Hall, Symphony Space, Carnegie Hall, Metropolitan Museum of Art, NY Historical Society, Concerts At One, Midtown Music Series, Stony Brook University and on the New York Early Music Series.

Sofia holds a Undergraduate and Master’s  Degrees in Vocal Performance from Mannes College of Music in New York, and a Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts from SUNY.
